Out of the Fire, and Into the LightCongratulations to all who helped with the ‘Out of the Fire’ Flower Festival. It was spectacular, enjoyable and the response was more than we could have imagined. I would guess those four days saw the largest crowds that have been through the Cathedral in the last 300 years. Thank you to everyone who looked after our visitors and made the festival (left and p 5) such a success. It was an outstanding example of working together for a breathtaking event which drew people’s attention to the history of Lisburn and the message of Christ. It is hard to believe that a few weeks ago we were in the midst of the Festival and now we are getting ready for Christmas. It truly is a feeling of ‘Out of the Fire’ and now, ‘Into the Light’. ‘The one who is the true light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world’. (John 1: 8) John is describing the coming of God’s only son to be our saviour. He warns that the world would not understand Christ’s coming, because they were in the darkness, yet ‘his life brought light to everyone’. (John 1: 4) It is this true light we are called to share with the world this Christmas. I pray that many people will come to the Christmas services where the truth of the true light will shine, Jesus, the Light of the World. God’s desire is that no one is left in the darkness but that all come to know the wonderful saviour, Jesus Christ, the light for all our lives. Most people love the Christmas story, the baby born in a manger, the joy of the mother and father in the stable, the singing of the heavenly host and shepherds out in the fields nearby, so this is a good time to bring friends and family to church, to hear the message of Christmas and to meet the person behind it all, Jesus Christ the light for all our lives. It’s also a time when you can shine the light, radiate the light and share the light of Christ. I encourage you to share something, be with someone, reach out to someone, to bring the light and love of Jesus to someone who won’t come through our church doors this Christmas. Three hundred years ago fire consumed the City of Lisburn, this Christmas go ‘the second mile’ to help share out the light and love Jesus through this City. I wish you and your family a peaceful and merry Christmas, and may Christ shine upon you. Sam Wright |
