On Tuesday 6th July I leave for Yei in Southern Sudan, the parachute jump to raise funds was exhilarating, the experience of a lifetime! It was a beautiful sunny morning when I went out to the airfield in Garvagh. Mark who had previously lived in Sudan was my trainer and tandem partner for the skydive. Once we had reached 13000ft it was time to jump, on leaving the plane it took me a moment or two to reorientate as the 120mph wind hit as I freefell to 4000ft. The North Coast across Portrush and Portstewart looked stunning. The parachute opened and I moved to an upright position as Mark and I parachuted down to the airfield and made a perfect landing. The whole point of the jump was to raise funds for Teacher training in Yei and I'm glad it captured the imagination and people have given so generously. The cost of training a teacher in Southern Sudan for a 'two year course is £2700. If anyone else would like to give me sponsor money before I leave I will forward it to CMSI for the vital work of training teachers in Yei. Thank you for your generous support.
