During the process of shaping the vision, CREED Ireland asked a challenging question: “Why does Lisburn Cathedral exist?”
We were then led to a wonderful verse from Jeremiah 29:7, which challenged us to be a blessing to our city, and little by little, God revealed more of the picture.
“Work for the peace and prosperity of the city where I sent you into exile. Pray to the LORD for it, for its welfare will determine your welfare”. Jeremiah 29:7
We believe we are being called to focus on three ‘buildings’:
- The first is our main Cathedral building. Seven nights a week, our halls are being exhaustively used, with hundreds of people and numerous organisations enjoying adaptable and comfortable facilities. In contrast, our beautiful, atmospheric and significant Cathedral is rarely used more than five or six hours a week. At a time when our electrics, lighting, sound and visuals need essential upgrading, we want to take this opportunity to accentuate our wonderful old building by making it a space that can be enjoyed by all, throughout the week.
- The second is that we want to build a great community. God has positioned us in Lisburn to be a blessing to our community and to build community here. We want to provide a place, where people from our community can gather for seminars, for teaching, for tours, or for coffee. We want to give people from our community who would never otherwise enter a church, a good number of reasons to enter ours.
- We want to improve the facilities in our great building and build a great community so that we can build a great Church! A community where people engage with other and engage with Jesus, where people of all ages are being discipled, where the worship is dynamic and engaging.
The vision for Lisburn Cathedral:
Transforming this city.
