Why we should call out ....And why we don’t

Intro. What is the most exciting or urgent news that you have ever had to deliver to someone? How was it received?

Word and Worship. Take another look at Romans 10:9-15 as you consider the question Why should we share our faith?

Five reasons why we should tell people about Jesus:

  1. We have a compulsion to tell people about Jesus.
  2. We have been commanded to tell people about Jesus.
  3. We are convinced that people need to hear about Jesus.
  4. We have compassion for people who have not heard about Jesus.
  5. The church was created to tell people about Jesus.

a) Who calls out the good news to those who are not Christians?

Is it the responsibility of all Christians or just a group of specialists? Read 1st Peter 3:15-16

  1. What is Peter urging in verse 15?

  2. If you are being asked your Christian hope who is taking the imitative?

  3. Verse 16b gives advice on the manner in which the truth is to be shared. How might our witness to Jesus not be done with gentleness and respect?

b) The bible indicates that there are those Christians whom God has specifically called and gifted to evangelists. Read Ephesians 4:11-13.

  1. Briefly how would you define the job descriptions of the different ministries listed in verse 11?

  2. What according to verses 12 and 13 should be the goal of their work?

  3. Which of these gifts has God given to you? Seek to encourage each other in discovering and using your gifts!

Witness List the reasons for sharing your faith in Jesus that have emerged in the course of this study? Which seem to you the most compelling?

What gifts and help has God provided to help you in sharing your faith with others?

Prayer: That sharing the good news of Jesus would be at the top of our priorities in our lives, our families and in the life of the cathedral.
