The Five Areas of Jesus Mission

Sunday 5th June 2005

Intro. When have you felt either under or over estimated because of where you were from or who you were related to? (See Luke 4: 14-15)

Word and Worship. Luke 3:21-22 The Baptism of Jesus

What is significant about Jesus being baptised at the same time as “all the people”?

What three things happened at Jesus’ baptism that make it unlike the others’?

Was Jesus any different after his baptism? Why or why not?

Does the anointing of the Holy Spirit make a difference in your life? How does it?

Luke 4: 16-21 - Five areas of Jesus mission:

  1. Preaching the gospel.

  2. H

  3. Performing acts of mercy.

  4. Working for fair and just social structures.

  5. Explaining God’s grace to disheartened people.

The work of mission that Jesus demonstrated is to be carried on by the church today.

  1. How is Christ calling you to step out in mission?

  2. What can you do immediately to get started? Are you going to do this?

  3. How is God anointing you (v18-19) as a follower of Jesus?

  4. Which area of concern do you give priority to and which do you tend to neglect?

Witness

We often long for the power of the Holy Spirit to descend on our church as it did on Jesus at his baptism and on the early church. But do we also long to have the same extraordinary vision and zeal to break down barriers and reach others for Christ?

Prayer

  1. Pray that your personal witness will be inspired and empowered by the Holy Spirit.

  2. Pray that you will be led by the Holy Spirit to act and to speak for him

  3. Pray that the Holy Spirit will anoint you and the whole church to spread the good news through the React mission.
