Study and Reflection Time: January – March 2008Holy Trinity Theological College, Bristol will be my home for the early part of 2008. Twenty years after leaving the Church of Ireland Theological College in Dublin, I am returning to College. This time the purpose is a bit different, I will be attending lectures to inspire and stimulate my thinking as I prepare for the next period of ministry in the Cathedral. I will also be linking up with some churches in England to observe and learn from their models for ministry. Then I will be spending some time with the Benedictine Monks in Rostrevor for a guided time of reflection and retreat. To give you a little insight from the Benedictines, their reflection corner on the web has a lovely prayer that I hope will be a help and blessing to you: ‘I love you, Lord, my powerful defender, wise guide, gentle consoler, generous rewarder. Confident, I cast all my care on him whose loving kindness cannot be exhausted in fulfilling my every need’. In this time away from the parish I will be taking a step back to think through my own thoughts and direction for ministry and our church. Finally, I will be spending some time on my own and with my wife and family, reflecting on what I’ve learnt, read and observed and thinking through how I can apply these new insights to my ministry among you. My thanks to Ken for agreeing to take charge of the Cathedral while I am away. Please direct any enquiries, and pass on any information, to him and I would ask you to support him and pray for him daily over these three months. Please also pray for Paula and my family during my time away. Sam Wright |
