December 2000 WHO STOLE CHRISTMAS? The Grinch is set to be one of the big movies this Christmas. It’s the
story of a creature with a small Instead of coming out on Christmas morning in tears, the people came singing! Without any presents at all, they still celebrated Christmas coming! The Grinch was puzzled. How co uld this happen? He thought it over for hours and concluded: "Maybe Christmas doesn’t come from a store, maybe Christmas means a little bit more!" They say that the Grinch’s small heart grew three sizes that day! The truth is that Christmas is more than just things. It is a promise fulfilled. The Angels announced to the Shepherds: "Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord." Luke 2:11 From that moment the world was a changed place for God had intervened in a way that brought Good News of Great Joy for all people. This Christmas season we are making it our aim to be Good News to the people of Lisburn by holding a Christmas fair - to help with presents, to provide fun and to make lunches available when every where else will be packed. It is on the 9th December from 12 - 3 p.m. The proceeds will all go to the Black Santa Appeal, to assist needy people at home and overseas. So we are not only Good News to those in Lisburn, but to the most needy as well. Jesus Christ came into the world in poverty. He died with nothing, yet he’s the best present the world has ever received, for through him: the despairing can find hope, instead of hate comes love, in the place of violence comes peace and, evil is defeated by the power of God’s goodness. The world around us can seek to STEAL CHRISTMAS from us by promoting presents over the presence of Christ in our lives. "Maybe Christmas doesn’t come from a store, maybe Christmas means a little bit more!" We too can discover the Good News of Christmas. Christmas comes to us from the person who brought us Easter, Jesus Christ. He was born, he died and he’s alive today, so we can have life now and forever. Don’t let anyone or anything steal Christmas from you! Come and see the baby born in Bethlehem. Come and celebrate Jesus this Christmas. Come to discover Him for yourself as your "Beautiful Saviour, Wonderful Counsellor and living Lord." Come and follow him as the Way, the Truth and the Life for your life. True happiness at Christmas can only be found in Jesus Christ, so do come and celebrate Him. Happy Christmas to you and all whom you love, Sam Wright |
