Transformed Life - Introduction

Hans Christian Andersen’s famous story of the ugly duckling has also famously been told in a song - so sing along now!
“There once was an ugly duckling
With feathers all stubby and brown
And the other birds in so many words said
Get out of town, get out, get out, get out of town
And he went with a quack
And a waddle and a quack
In a flurry of eiderdown”
We can sometimes feel a bit like the ugly duckling – confused about our identity, struggling to fit in and not knowing our life purpose
However, Psalm 139 reminds us of how God has uniquely created us: “How you made me is amazing and wonderful. I praise you for that. What you have done is wonderful. I know that very well.”
This is the first key truth that we should know:
1. We have been MARVELLOUSLY MADE.
The turmoil in the world around us reflects the second truth we should know:
Earlier this year as I watched a Television documentary on my childhood footballing hero George Best, I was disturbed to see how even a person with great ability, with the world at their feet, having just won the greatest prize in club football could describe his feelings in this way: “At the height of it all, in the shower immediately after winning the European Cup Final, I went on a downer because I may never, ever in my life experience this again.” The bible tells us, that who ever we are, whatever we have achieved, we ‘all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God’ (Romans 3:23, NIV), which makes us ‘utterly incapable of living the glorious lives that God wills for us’ (Romans 3:23 – The Message). We are Fatally Flawed - We are in desperate need of rescue and restoration! The good news is:
3. We can be TOTALLY Transformed.
Ephesians 1:11 in the Message translation puts it like this,
‘It’s in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for’.
It’s in Christ we have a new identity, we are now made brand new - made right with God,
It’s in Christ we become children of God - we are holy and secure.
It’s in Christ we have a new place to belong –  we belong in the family of God.
And it’s in Christ we now have a new purpose - to be transformed by Christ, to help others to be transformed by Christ and to seek and pray for the transformation of the world by Christ.
God wants to do a glorious work of transformation through us, let’s journey together to be transformed and to see his wonderful transformation shaping more and more lives.
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works.”
Ephesians 2:10
