TRANSFORMED LIFE - Week 4
Alive for his Purpose
Memory verse: “It is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus.” [Ephesians 2:5b-6]
At the start of this year, I joined my local Slimming world class and was pretty successful at it (until I started working in a Cathedral which serves some great scones and tray bakes). One of the most motivating things to do when you start a journey like that it to look back at what you used to look like and to take in how far you’ve come and the transformation which has taken place.
We’re been look this week at Ephesians 2:1-10, where Paul describes the transformation which takes place in a person’s life after they have become a Christian.
Before Christ comes into a person’s life Paul writes that:
“you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath” [Ephesians 2:1-10]
The state we were in could be summarised in three words. We were:
This is more serious that carrying some extra weight or a few lines or wrinkles – we were spiritually dead!
We deserve to have been left there but God is so rich in mercy and love for us that he just wasn’t prepared to leave us there. Jesus took on our sin and physically died in our place, and when God raised him from the dead, he did three things for us.
Are Seated with Christ
Have a Purpose
It’s important for us a Christians that we don’t take our transformation for granted, and we don’t slip back into our old way of life. We have been seated with Christ himself, we are invited to rest in his victory and we know that “are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” [Ephesians 2:1-10]
God has resurrected us and given us a second chance at life, and he sets us to work, getting to know him and also making him known!
