Welcome to Lisburn Cathedral's Web Site

Christ Church Cathedral stands at the apex of Castle Street and Bridge Street in the heart of Lisburn, about 7 miles south west of Belfast, Northern Ireland. Its slim octagonal spire is the tallest landmark in the city. There has been a Christian church on this site for the last 380 years. In 1662 it was granted cathedral status by Charles II but in April 1707 the church was destroyed by a disastrous fire that swept through the whole town of Lisburn. The rebuilding of a new church was begun the following year and the spire was added a hundred years later.

Although we are proud of our historic heritage Lisburn Cathedral is very much a living church. Our bustling congregations span all age groups and we enjoy a wide range of both traditional and contempary styles of worship. There is also a thriving program of midweek activities and organisations for young and old alike.

You will see in our vision that we  aim to discover God’s love, acceptance and forgiveness and direction, to have Jesus Christ at the centre of our lives as Saviour and Lord, to see his kingdom grow through the power of the Holy Spirit and to be Christ’s witnesses in Lisburn and where ever he sends us.
